Members of the Coalition for a Just University will be taking part in a TEACH OUT(SIDE) event from October 4th through 7th (Monday through Thursday) to continue to advocate for a vaccine mandate, increased testing, enforcement of masking in buildings, and safety precautions at all large Penn State events. With rising Covid cases and hospitalizations across campuses, the university’s irresponsible decisions have already put our communities across the Commonwealth at risk. We are at risk if we go about business as usual.

We are calling for all faculty to teach their classes outdoors to demonstrate support for students, staff, faculty, and community members, especially children under twelve who can’t be vaccinated and those who are most vulnerable to COVID. We are teaching outside because as professional educators at a top-tier institution, we know that students need to feel and be safe in order to learn. We are also teaching outside to raise awareness about rising COVID hospitalizations in our communities and to discuss actions that we can take to keep one another safe.

Thousands of students at our campuses will have the opportunity to learn safely outdoors, and with your help, we hope to give that opportunity to thousands more.

We believe in real shared governance, and we want to realize our vision of Penn State as an ethical and just university.  Through continuing to stand together now, as we teach out(side), we have power to do that.
